Pizza: the taste of Italy!
Pizza, together with pasta, is undoubtedly the best known and most appreciated dish in Italian cuisine. At the end of 1500s and the beginning of the 1600s in Naples there was a soft pizza made with basil, lard and cheese called "mastunicola". Pizza became a very popular dish for poor and noble classes.
The success of pizza also conquered the House Savoy so much that the pizza maker Raffaele Esposito dedicated the "pizza Margherita" to Queen Margherita of Savoy in 1889. It rappresented the three colored Italian flag: white - mozzarella, red - tomato and green- basil.
